Now you are settled into your student home in Lancaster, it’s the perfect time to start exploring the city and getting involved in local events. Lancaster hosts a series of events throughout the year, and although it may be a small city, there’s always something going on.

If you’re new to Lancaster, or just didn’t get to spend much time in the city centre due to living on campus in your first year, Light up Lancaster is an event you don’t want to miss. The event itself includes delightful light projections, film, magical giant lanterns, bright robotic inflatables and a fantastic fireworks display.

Light up Lancaster is a wonderful event that happens every year within the city centre and is a hit amongst both locals and students. This year’s theme is ‘Flights of the Imagination and the free two-day festival will take place at a range of different locations throughout Lancaster. To start off your Light up Lancaster experience, we would suggest getting wrapped up warm, as this event will be held on the 5-6th of November and involves being outdoors in parts, so make sure to grab your coat!

The impressive fireworks finale is launched from Lancaster Castle on the Saturday evening, with the castle also being a venue for Leap, which involves a moving blend of projection mapping, animation, film and touching storytelling. If you’re wanting to view the fireworks from one of the official viewing areas, wristbands are available from their website here. However, due to the location being Lancaster Castle, it is likely the fireworks can be seen throughout Lancaster, so if you’re unable to attend the finale on Saturday the 6th November, or just want to stay in, you’re sure to be able to see them from your Lancaster student accommodation. You might just have to pop into your back garden or keep an eye out of your bedroom window though!

This year, the event will take place across a variety of different locations around Lancaster City Centre, including the Dukes, The Storey Gardens, Dalton Square, Market Square and many more. Why not treat yourself to a seasonal hot drink from one of Lancaster’s many cafes between the events. Pumpkin Spice Latte anyone?

Whatever age you are, Light up Lancaster is sure to be a hit for all and is one of the reasons why renting a student house in Lancaster with IPM is such a brilliant idea, either way, you won’t have a long walk/bus journey there or home! We hope to see you there.
