Here at IPM Lancaster, we have curated the perfect bucket list for you to complete this winter, and because we understand that because you guys are students, rest assured none of it will break the bank! Filled with an assortment of festive activities, you can complete this list by yourself, with a partner or with friends in your Lancaster student accommodation to make your winter extra festive.

  1. Christmas Movie Day

The perfect way to spend a day off at your Lancaster student accommodation would be to get cosy, have a pyjama day, get your hot water bottle out and have a Christmas movie marathon! Make yourself a hot chocolate (decorated to your liking, cream and marshmallows please!) and spend the day binge watching your favourite Christmas/Winter movies. IMDB has created a list of the top 100 Christmas movies so if you’re unsure of what to watch (or struggling to please everyone in your Lancaster student accommodation), you can find some inspiration here

2. Cook up some warm winter treats

There’s no better way to spend a day than baking some Christmas cookies, gingerbread men or mince pies! It doesn’t matter if you’re a seasoned baker or have never baked anything before in your life, as BBC Good Food have a list of easy Winter bakes. If sweet treats are not your style, why not have a go at making a home-cooked hearty winter meal (potentially for your housemates/friends too). Meals such as soups, stews and casseroles are sure to be a hit with everyone and a must do on our winter bucket list. Here is a list of different winter warmer meal ideas.

3. A festive trip to the park

Lancaster has lots of wonderful things to see over the Christmas/winter period, and if your love being outdoors, number 3 on our winter bucket list is perfect for you! Why not take a cosy winter walk around Williamson Park. If you have been a student living in Lancaster for a while and have never been to Williamson Park, then you’re missing out! It is home to the iconic Ashton Memorial landmark, as well as stunning parkland (54 acres to be exact!) with woodland walks, play parks for all ages and magnificent views of not just Morecambe Bay but also the nearby Lake District. Whilst there are various lovely walks to do in Lancaster, Williamson Park is certainly one of the top ones.

4. Christmas in the City Centre

Lancaster most definitely decorates the city for Christmas and the town centre always looks beautiful during winter. Having a leisurely stroll around the city centre looking at all the lights and decorations is an absolute must-do for winter. Why not treat yourself to one of the seasonal hot drinks from one of the many coffee shops in town? Whether it’s one of Costa Coffee’s new Christmas drinks such as the ‘quality street toffee penny latte’ or the Starbucks ‘eggnog latte’, trying one of the seasonal drinks is a completely necessary purchase this winter.

Finally, to end our Ultimate Winter Bucket list, we had to add having fun in the snow! Now usually in Lancaster, we are not blessed by lots of snow due to living so close to the coast. However, if by some miracle we wake up one morning and it’s a winter wonderland, what better way to spend your time than wrapping up warm and playing in the snow. Having a snowball fight, making snow angels, or building a snowman is the perfect way to end your winter bucket list.
